Eastside 2035
The Eastside 2035 Community Revitalization Plan is being developed to guide the transformation of Wilmington’s Eastside neighborhood over the next decade. Designed with the input of Eastside residents and other stakeholders, the plan outlines a shared vision for a vibrant, welcoming community. It focused on improving safety, housing, public spaces, and economic opportunities, while fostering stronger connections between neighbors.
Three key organizations—Habitat for Humanity of New Castle County, Central Baptist Community Development Corporation, and Healthy Communities Delaware—collaborated to manage and fund the project.
With a steering committee made up of local residents and organizations, the goal was to engage at least 10% of Eastside’s 6,000 residents in shaping the future of the neighborhood. Through creative outreach like community workshops, the use of paid, local ambassadors, pop-up activities, and neighborhood cleanups. The engagement process included a Teen Panel at the Walnut Street YMCA, where local youth shared their vision for the Eastside, and a Rock-the-Block event led by Habitat for Humanity, which mobilized 52 volunteers to beautify 30 blocks and feed almost 200 residents.
The plan uses "7 Vital Conditions for Health and Well-being" framework to ensure that the Eastside becomes a safe, thriving neighborhood with well-maintained homes, green parks, and locally-owned businesses. The vision is to create a community where everyone feels welcome, with access to opportunities and spaces that support health, creativity, and connection at every stage of life.
