Reimagine Brodie Lane
Reimagine Brodie Lane presents a bold vision for transforming one of Sunset Valley’s most important gateways and retail hub into a dynamic and inviting corridor, reflective of Sunset Valley’s character. The project team collaborated with the City, hundreds of community members, representatives from commercial shopping centers, the City of Austin, Travis County, and other stakeholders to understand the current state of Brodie Lane and envision its future.
The community prioritized complete and safe streets, invigorating the commercial district, improving the nighttime experience of the corridor, and creating a strong sense of place. The new vision for Brodie Lane involves achieving these goals through updates to intersections, roads, paths, safety measures, and amenities. This includes landscaping, signage, bollard and pole lighting, traffic signal upgrades and more. A new shared-use path will accommodate pedestrian and cyclist traffic from the Violet Crown trail, ensuring a seamless and secure experience for commuters, and providing improved access to Brodie’s 22 bars and restaurants, along with other retail destinations. The integration of public art and landscape enhancements will not only enhance the visual appeal of the street but also contribute to Sunset Valley’s identity.
To ensure smooth implementation, a three-phase structure of at least four years was identified. This phased approach prioritizes maintaining business access during construction and minimizing mobilization costs for the City while progressing toward the community's vision for a reimagined Brodie Lane.
